World Bank Group Internship 2026 – WBG Pioneers Program

About the Program

WBG Pioneers is the World Bank Group’s premier internship program, offering undergraduate and postgraduate students structured learning and hands on experience within one of the world’s leading international development institutions. Interns contribute to real, ongoing WBG workstreams while gaining direct exposure to how the organization designs and delivers global development projects.

Applications for the Fall/Winter Cycle are open from July 13 to August 12, 2026.

What You’ll Do

As an intern, you will be placed within a specific team or department (positions span economics, investment analysis, data science, environmental and social development, communications, operations, and more see open roles below) and will:

• Contribute directly to live World Bank Group projects and workstreams
• Work cross-functionally across technical and corporate support functions
• Collaborate with teams based in Washington, D.C. and country offices around the world
• Receive mentorship and guidance from experienced WBG professionals
• Build practical, transferable skills relevant to international development careers
• Gain a firsthand understanding of how global development projects are designed and delivered

Program Structure

Internships typically run 3 to 6 months, depending on the role, and are paid (competitive hourly salary).

Sample open roles include: Procurement Sourcing Intern, Data Analyst/Engineer Intern, AI Data Scientist Intern, Governance/Public Sector Reform Intern, Environmental and Social Analyst Intern, and dozens more across locations including Chennai, Lagos, Vienna, Nairobi, Buenos Aires, Cairo, and Washington, D.C.

Requirements

Education

• Undergraduate Track: Final-year bachelor’s students
• Postgraduate Track: Students currently pursuing a master’s degree or PhD

Language

• Fluency in English required

Experience

• Between 0 and 6 years of professional working experience

Nationality

• Must be a citizen of a World Bank Group member country

Fee vs. No-Fee Tracks

Some positions fall under the No-Fee Internship Track. To qualify, applicants must either:

• Be enrolled in a Master’s, PhD, or equivalent graduate program for the entire internship and provide an official university letter confirming the internship fulfills academic requirements for at least one term of study; or
• Be enrolled in undergraduate or graduate studies and receive a university stipend at least equivalent to the minimum STT T1 fee level in effect at the start of the assignment, confirmed by an official university letter.
